"Wisdom begins in Wonder"–Socrates
We are usually not the type of travellers that would head to touristy beach areas for holidays, but this past summer we decided to give it a go and headed to Albufeira, Portugal. 2016 had its ups and downs and this was the perfect place to unwind and take a breather for a quick moment.
I hope you enjoy the glimpse of this coastal city that has recently faced hard times but continues to thrive and flourish.
Destination: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Date: February, 2016
We decided to take a quick RyanAir flight over to the UK to visit a few dear friends a couple of days. While the weather was rather nippy, it was a beautiful city to explore.
One of the characteristics that makes this city stunning is the bridges that are scattered along the River Tyne. Both during the day and at night this area offers a wonderful view.
We decided to do a bit of exploring outside of the city centre, so we jumped on the metro and headed to Tynemouth which is on the coast. After a short ride, the doors opened and we were greeted with a bustling market only a few feet away that offered over a 150 stalls.
After meandering around the wonderful stalls, we headed out of the station and to Tynemouth Pier and Lighthouse, and the Tynemouth Castle that overlooks the North Sea. There was a community of fishermen and women scattered along the pier making the most of the day as well.
It was a wonderful trip with great company and food. A weekend to remember.
Here are some shots I captured of a shipwreck on Banna Strand that only makes its appearance at low tide. Over the holidays we were lucky enough to be there at the right time and the outline of the wreck gives you a good idea of the size of the ship.
